Accessorize your hair & more: An interview with Hair Bows Wonderworld

This week's interview features Lynn of Hair Bows Wonderworld. Lynn is located across the pond in the wonderful Manchester, United Kingdom.

Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a mother of three under 5’s and I am married to the love of my life. I've been crafting forever as a hobby, but I've been on Etsy just for around a year, and I love it. Three years ago, I started making hair bows for my own daughter, and my love for ribbon grew! As a matter of luck, I found out an original way to make my ribbon rose, which lately has become rather popular amongst my bow making community. I even created an instructional E-book on how to make it, You can find it here. I didn't stop there. I kept looking for new way to make other types of flowers out of ribbon. Each new flower is a new challenge to me. Many of my friends then told me I should venture into the bridal market, and because I always loved wedding the way a child loved a fairy tale, I thought I should give it a try, that's when I started to carry bridal hair accessories in my store and later bridal bouquets! Later on I tried my luck with different materials other than ribbon and now I love to make fabric flower, too. Most of my flowers are made out of ribbon - many types of ribbon. I aim for a real look with my ribbon flowers. Besides, I do fabric flowers with more of an abstract look, too. My flowers are durable and will stay pretty and fresh with you for a life time and beyond.

What special things do you create for weddings?
Anything with flowers in it, mostly bouquets and hair accessories. I am a flower addict (grin). I love to do custom order, too, so when being asked to make items to match, I do also boutonniere, corsage/wrist corsage, ringbearer pillow, flower cake topper , flower girl basket and centerpiece etc as well.

Who or what sparked your interest in making wedding-related items?
I love making beautiful things, I love it when people fall in love and get married. It’s like a fairy tale with such a happy ending, you know, when in the end people all are so kind to each other, and the main heroes – the couple – live together happily ever after. Making wedding-related items for people who are getting married gives me a chance being a part of this fairy tale again and again.

What is a little known fact, or something unique about your work that is interesting?
I taught myself to make all the flowers I used in my bouquets. People used to ask me ‘what instructions do you use?’ and in fact there is no instructions. My great inspiration is nature. I love to look at the flowers, admire their beauty and try to imitate them using ribbon or fabric. I started with roses, and now in my portfolio, I’ve got rose, orchid, peony, lotus, hibiscus, lilly, daffodil, dahlia, daisy, hydrangea, ranunculus… My brides have been a great source of inspiration for me, too. Many times the most interesting ideas come from my brides and I love to bring their visions to life. Sometimes it seems to be impossible it makes the task almost like a challenge - I'll need to find a way to do it, and find it quickly. You cannot imagine how happy I am once it's been figured out and turns out beautifully.

If you are married, what’s the one thing you wish you had for your wedding that you didn’t?
Make my own bouquet, and my bridesmaid bouquet, and my hair fascinator, and my favor, and my invitation, and my centerpieces, and… LOL

What is your favorite wedding song?
I love Wagner’s bridal chorus and Elton John’s can you feel the love tonight.

What is your favorite part of the wedding journey?
Children

What advice can you share for all the brides getting married this year?
Just relax, be happy and be yourself. In the end this IS YOUR wedding! Plan ahead of time and accept help!

What is your perfect honeymoon spot?
Australia, where I first met my husband

If you could pick anyone famous that would purchase your items for their wedding, who would they be?
The celtic women, Celine Dion, Martha Stewart.

If you could choose 1 item from your shop that you wish every bride could have, what would it be?
My Blooming Marvellous Rose
