This week's interview features Aimee O'Boyle of Creative Montage. Aimee is located in Kansas City, KS.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a work at home mom of a very active 3 year old. I love all things wedding and most definitely all things paper. I'm pretty sure my life would stop if I couldn't see color & texture everyday.
What special things do you create for weddings?
While my specialty is my custom invitation suite work, starting an Etsy shop really allowed for me to expand my offerings to include ready-made invite & accessory designs as well as digital files that customers can print on their own!
Who or what sparked your interest in making wedding-related items?
I went to school for textile design but was never able to find something in the design field for work. It made me sad to think that my love for design and art was being stifled by a boring desk job. It was in planning my own wedding that I realized a serious need for unique, personalized stationery available to clients over the internet and thus Creative Montage was born.
What is a little known fact, or something unique about your work that is interesting?
I am a one man show here so customers receive one-on-one attention at all times. We offer a large range of items with the feel of a mom and pop shop. Its because of this that our customers are lifetime customers and come to us not only for wedding items but baby, personal stationery and business items.
If you are married, what’s the one thing you wish you had for your wedding that you didn’t?
I wish our wedding was more backyard/rustic in feel so that adding unique personal touches would have made more sense.
What is your favorite wedding song?
By Your Side by Sade (that was our wedding song so I would feel incredibly guilty for not choosing that particular song)
What is your favorite part of the wedding journey?
For me, seeing my husband's beaming face as I was walking down the aisle made all the stress of planning worth it. (Ok that and the fact that people are STILL talking about our wedding)
What advice can you share for all the brides getting married this year?
Plan a wedding that is YOU and no one else. There are so many wedding inspirations out there, its easy to pick something that you like and mimic it. But if the style isn't really "you" its only going to feel like you don't belong in that setting.
What is your perfect honeymoon spot?
Bora Bora, hands down. I've never been there but REALLY wanted to go there for our honeymoon but just couldn't swing the large price tag.
If you could pick anyone famous that would purchase your items for their wedding, who would they be?
I know that they aren't engaged yet but when Reese Witherspoon is ready to marry Jake Gyllenhal, I would jump at the chance to create their invitations. She's so down to earth that I really feel like her wedding would be very un-Hollywood.
If you could choose 1 item from your shop that you wish every bride could have, what would it be?
Every bride should have at least one monogram to work with in designing their wedding. Its the easiest way to achieve a harmonious flow to any event.
